Tarja Soile Susanna Turunen Cabuli ( 17 de agosto de 1977),? es una cantante finlandesa con formación clásica, con una tesitura de soprano-lírica. Debido a ello, su voz ofrece gran flexibilidad para interpretar todo tipo de efectos, graves o agudos. Inició su formación musical en el canto clásico u operístico a los 6 años de edad. Durante 9 años fue la vocalista de la banda de metal sinfónico Nightwish, que en 1996 fundó con sus compañeros Tuomas Holopainen y Emppu Vuorinen.En 2005, fue expulsada de la banda por conflictos con sus miembros, a través de una carta que fue hecha pública por los mismos.? Turunen lanzó un álbum extra de Navidad, que solo fue comercializado en Europa, llamado Henkäys Ikuisuudesta. En el año 2007 comenzó su carrera solista con el lanzamiento del álbum My Winter Storm. Por su carrera solista ha sido nominada a dos Emma Awards (equivalentes finlandeses al Grammy) en 2006 y 2007, y prenominada a un Grammy 2009 por su colaboración con el artista Schiller.? El 1 de septiembre de 2010 lanzó a la venta su tercer álbum de estudio solista, llamado What Lies Beneath, el cual fue producido por la cantante y bien recibido por el público y el 23 de agosto de 2013 se publicó su cuarto álbum de estudio solista, titulado Colours in the Dark, para promocionar su cuarto álbum el 17 de octubre de 2013 comenzó la gira «Colours in the Dark World Tour» la cual finalizó en noviembre de 2015.
Actualmente se encuentra desarrollando dos nuevos álbumes de estudio, titulados The Brightest Void, salido al mercado el 3 de junio de 2016, y The Shadow Self, el cual fue publicado el 5 de agosto de 2016.
Es una de las cantantes más populares de su género en la mayor parte de Europa. Desde 1996 ha lanzado nueve álbumes de estudio (cinco con Nightwish y cuatro como solista),? donde ha realizado apariciones en TV. El 29 de julio de 2014 Turunen fue anunciada como jurado para la cuarta temporada del popular programa de televisión The Voice of Finland la cual se estrenó el 2 de febrero de 2015 a través de Nelonen, cuya ganadora Miia Kossunen, perteneció al Team Tarja.
